ABSTRACT

Fifteen healthy pregnant women at term, between the ages of 21 and 31 years, with their newborn babies, were investigated for their 2,3-DPG levels. All the babies were born by caesarean section. Seventeen nonpregnant women in the same age range as the mother group, without cardiopulmonary disease, metabolic disorder or severe anemia, were also investigated and used as the control group. Samples were collected from umbilical vessels in newborn babies and from arm vessels in mothers and nonpregnant women. The levels of 2,3-DPG were measured by the ultraviolet enzymatic method of Sigma Chemical Company. The results were as follows: 1. The 2,3-DPG lovels in teram of whole blood among the three groups were not significantly different. 2. The 2,3-DPG levels in terms of hemoglobin, the highest in the mother group and there was no difference the between the nonpregnant women and the newborn baby groups.

ABSTRACT

The authors have experience of a case of prolonged paresis following administration of galamine triethiodide to a patient undergoing reoperation. The muscular weakness continued for 20 hours, necessitating artificial ventilation intermittently. It was reversed by neostigmine.

ABSTRACT

The authors have experienced a case of incompatible blocd transfusion during general anesthesia, which was mostly due to technical error, lack of knowledgeoble handling and universal doncr "0" type blood.

ABSTRACT

Since April 1972, we have used the method of continuous intravenous infusion of thiopentoned tubocurarine mixture in 74 cases which were not required fully muscular relaxation during operation such as orthopedic operation, laminectomy, and mastoidectomy etc. The results were as follows. 1. The average needs of thiopentone and d-tubocurarine were 430mg/hr and 6.5mg/hr. 2. There were no specific changes on blood pressure, pulse rate and respiration. 3. The average recovery time was 20 minutes. 4. This method was very simple, economic and no risk of explosion.

ABSTRACT

The authors have experienced two cases of general anesthesia for patients of congenital esophageal atresia with tracheo-esophageal fistula. Of great importance in anesthetic management is preventing pulmonary complications before or during operation as well as post-operation. Survival rates mostly depend upon the early diagnosis and abscence of pulmonary complications which are the most common cause of high death rates. Meticulous care of the patients to keep on airway, clearing of bronchial secreations, maintaining normal body temperature and humidity are very important in management of anesthesia. To avoid gastric distension, careful inflation of the lungs during opened chest has been recommended. Also intermittent positive pressure ventilation during the repair may be required.
